Chapter 17. We Need to Talk

Amelia’s POV
A groan escaped my lips as I cracked open one eye, the harsh morning light a spear directly to my throbbing head. Memories of the night before flooded back–the pounding music, the flowing drinks, dancing with Kaylee and actually having tipsy conversations with people. A sheepish smile tugged at the corner of my lips, quickly replaced by a wince as my stomach grumbled in protest. Classic hangover.
Pushing myself out of bed, I stumbled towards the bathroom, wincing with each step. A quick glance in the mirror confirmed my suspicions–puffy eyes, hair resembling a bird’s nest, and a general aura of dishevelment.
As I shuffled into the living room, a sweet aroma tickled my nose. On the coffee table sat a steaming bowl of soup, a handwritten note propped against it. I recognized Kaylee’s loopy handwriting instantly.
