Chapter 25. He’s Just a Man

Amelia’s POV

“I think I got my job back.”

The words tumbled out of my mouth as I sank onto the couch beside Kaylee, my voice soft but heavy with a mix of relief and uncertainty.

Kaylee froze mid-scroll on her phone, her head snapping toward me so fast I feared she might have strained her neck. Her eyes widened with excitement as she let out a squeal that made me flinch.

“Shut up! Are you serious? Oh my God, how did it happen? Tell me everything!” she demanded, practically bouncing in her seat as she clutched my arm like I was about to fly away.

I offered a small smile, shaking my head at her enthusiasm as I leaned back against the plush cushions. “Well, Dr. Sharma called me earlier today…” I began, keeping my tone measured. I gave her the basics—leaving out the detail of Adrian being in our apartment earlier, and how he’d walked me to the door after our lunch with Dr. Sharma.
