Chapter 22. Kisses, Excuses and a Questionable Plan
2014
Amelia’s POV
You and I both know that’s not the real reason why you want me to stay away.
I stared down at my homework, but the words blurred together, the letters swimming on the page like they had a life of their own. No matter how hard I tried to concentrate, my mind dragged me back to him.
Adrian Kane.
The kiss played on a loop in my head, an infuriatingly vivid replay that I couldn’t shut off. His lips on mine, the way his hands gripped my waist as though letting go wasn’t an option—it all made my stomach flip, and I hated it.
It didn’t mean anything.
I told myself that over and over again. It was a moment of weakness, born out of adrenaline and…and the cold! Yes, we were both freezing after he’d pulled me out of the pool. Our bodies were just looking for warmth. That was it.
I huffed and slammed my pencil down, the sharp clatter echoing through the silent room. “It was just biology,” I muttered under my breath.
