Chapter 46. Stuck
2024
Amelia’s POV
I knew I shouldn’t have stayed this late.
Max had told me not to. Bianca had warned me that I’d burn myself out if I continued this way. But ever since I came back, I had been working like I was about to be conscripted into some corporate Avengers group, like Captain America would come knocking at my door and throw me out of the building if I didn’t prove my worth first.
Maybe I was compensating for the days I was gone. Maybe I just overthought things too much.
Either way, by the time I glanced at my phone, the screen glared back with a judgmental 9:14 PM, and I realized with a sinking feeling that I was the only one left in my office. Again.
I let out a sigh, rubbing at my temples before shutting my laptop. I grabbed my coat, my bag, and the coffee I never finished, downing the rest of the content in one gulp, and disposed of the cup before heading toward the elevator, my heels clicking softly against the floors.
