Amelia’s POV
Janelle laughed a little and I realized, to my dismay, that I must have made a face at her statement about crushing on Adrian. “I mean, look at him. He’s basically like all those Greek gods I spent my freshman year fantasizing about. And a senior. And kind of impossible to read.”
I swallowed, not sure I wanted to be in this conversation.
“But,” she said, “the heart wants what it wants, right? So, I guess I’ll take whatever I can get.”
I wasn’t paying attention to where I was stepping.
And that was my mistake.
Because before I even realized what was happening, my foot stumbled on an uneven part of the trail, and I stumbled.
Then fell.
Hard.
Pain shot through my ankle the moment it twisted beneath me and I screamed, hissing in pain.
“Amelia?”
