At first… it seemed like the world ceased to exist. It felt as though oxygen had been knocked out of the room, and outside, the full moon dimmed, as if even the heavens themselves were mourning a great loss.

Then the physician and the guards stormed in. But they knew they were too late—not that they could have done anything even if they had arrived earlier.

When Zevara saw the medical team, her gaze flicked between them and the lifeless Talon in her arms. She shifted, pulling him closer to herself.

“Talon,” she called softly, as if he were only taking a nap. “The physicians are here already, so they will treat you now, okay? You will definitely be fine.”

She was still living in denial, even though his body was already growing cold.
