Chapter 184

Author’s POV

Two hours later, thick sadness hung in the courtyard as the pack members—Elders, Alphas, Betas, maids, guards, Granny Daisy, Zevara, and Magnus—stood dressed in black. Their eyes were fixed on Talon’s corpse inside the coffin, with a large portrait of him smiling, as though he were still very much alive, hung everywhere.

Many of the pack members wailed loudly, but as for Zevara, she simply stood there. Not crying—because her tears had probably dried up. Not wailing—because she remembered Talon’s promise every time she felt like breaking down. But the oddly calm expression on her face was worse than tears.

Magnus’ chest ached. His first son had died in his presence. No matter how angry he had been at him, he had never wished for his death. He stood beside Zevara alongside Granny Daisy, both of them holding her at either side.

“The prince has gone to be with his maker,” the priest began, his grave voice booming through the courtyard.
