We were mired in an endless rut. If there was a reality show centered around bored housewives, my friends and I would've been cast as the leads. Obviously, no one would tune in to such a sad show and I couldn't blame them. Who would enjoy observing our lives, when we were tired of living them?
Sometimes it didn't even feel as if we were living. We were enduring. Day after day and year after year, it was always the same. We saw the same people, did the same things, and went to the same places. I had been a stay at home mom in a small town. At least when I was raising my kids, there was something important to do.
Like many moms, I cried when each of my kids fled the nest. I cried the most when my last child moved out. Many of those tears were cried because I realized the enormous void left in my life. My friends were in the same boat. We were all trying to fill that same emptiness.
