Chapter 153. Surprise Welcome
Caspian and Isaiah rode through the streets of Selihelion as quickly as they could, hot wind blowing over their faces as their eyes sparkled under the intense orange glow. The crackling and rustling of burning wood and metal echoed endlessly as the fire roared in the wind, and the smell of burning flesh permeated the air—some people didn’t make it out.
Caspian’s eyes darted around in random directions, searching each house they rode past to see if there was anyone left inside the burning city. The carriage rocked from side to side and bounced on and off the road as the horse galloped, jumping over and moving around flaming obstacles in its way. As they charged forward, a tall building collapsed before them, scattering flaming debris across the road and creating a wall of fire that blocked their path completely.
Caspian pulled the rein in the nick of time, and the horse came to a stop, inches away from hitting the giant wall of fire. “We have to go another way!” he said,
