Chapter 196. The Mission

It was late at night; the Lycan academy library was empty. Softly shined only by a lantern on her desk, Calliope drowned herself in her studies. She stared blankly at the off-white page of a massive, old book, her eyes shifting from one word to the next as she devoured the information within. Her black, chest-length hair poured down her shoulders like a stream of silk, blending seamlessly with the black, cotton uniform she wore.

Calliope’s night-blue eyes sparkled with wonder and curiosity as she flipped through the pages. A pair of bright blue eyes glowed on her far right, the form to which they were attached shrouded in the blackness beyond her lantern glow. They grew closer to a seemingly unsuspecting Calliope, the creature’s form becoming clearer as it closed in on the radiating light.

The glowing eyes and the creature's figure suddenly vanished just before entering the lamp's glow. For a breath, it felt like the library had grown even more silent
