Chapter 58. Haunting Shadow
Alethea stared quietly at Prince Desmond; their eyes were locked onto each other, and neither wanted to look away. Alethea had worry written all over her face; she wondered why Prince Desmond was doing this all of a sudden and wanted to get out of this situation as fast as she could.
“My Lord, I am forbidden by Valtorian Law to go into combat with you. Besides, that sword is only for practice; if my blade clashes with it, it’s bound to shatter,” Alethea argued.
Prince Desmond, ignoring her words, took a fighting stance, holding his blade’s handle close to his chest with both hands, its point facing the sky.
“The rumor that the armor of the haunters transforms them, giving them powers that rival the supernaturals, is nothing but a lie. The Haunters gained their immense speed and strength through intense, unimaginably painful training,” Desmond said, then launched at Alethea; as he approached her, he swung his sword at her face rapidly.
