Chapter 68. Lady Madelyn
I and Moriah sat on the opposite end of the curved furniture, staring at the lady who accommodated us the night before. I still had the brown cloth around my face and hoped so much that the lady wouldn’t ask me to take it off.
She stared back at us quietly with a soft smile on her face—a patronizing smile that seemed like she already knew who I was and was only waiting for me to take off the disguise so she could have me arrested.
Moriah seemed unbothered by the lady’s intense gaze; she was too busy enjoying the tea the housemaid had served. The housemaid walked to the table again and served each of us a large dish filled with freshly baked pastries.
They looked heavenly. The scent that radiated from the hot buns, donuts, and cake pieces made my mouth water. My fingers instinctively moved toward the plate, but when I noticed this, I pulled my hand back, remembering that my taste buds were a mess at the moment.
