I freeze the moment I hear a voice behind me. My heart skips a beat, and I turn around slowly. Standing there, looking as confident as ever, is Ethan.

My emotions are all over the place. Should I be relieved that he stood up for me, or should I roll my eyes at his unnecessary heroics? This was something I had under control. But now, thanks to him, I look like a damsel in distress, and he’s the superhero swooping in to save me.

Still, I can’t ignore the tiny thrill that runs through me. Get a grip, I scold myself.

The guy I had been arguing with looks up and sees Ethan’s displeased expression. His lips curled into a sneer, and his hand clenched into a fist.

"You think just because you own half the town, you can intimidate me? Hell no. You know what? Get a life," he spits out.
