I place my hand on my chest, feeling the rapid beat of my heart as realization dawns on me. It’s Ethan. He must have noticed my reaction because he immediately slowed the car to a stop, quickly stepped out, and strides toward me with concern etched on his face.
“I’m so sorry I scared you,” he says, his voice filled with genuine regret. His piercing blue eyes search mine as if trying to make sure I’m truly okay.
I shift my gaze away, staring off to the side. “I’m fine, thank you.”
Ethan doesn’t seem convinced. “Can I give you a ride home? I’m not taking no for an answer,” he insists, leaving me little room to argue.
I cross my arms. “You’re not going my way, sir,” I say, emphasizing the last word.
He groans in frustration. “Oh, please, stop with the ‘sir’ and just call me Ethan,” he replies, flashing a small smile.
I hesitate. “But you’re my boss,” I remind him.
He shrugs as if that detail doesn’t matter. “
