Chapter 42. Hunting the Hunter

Joy’s POV

“Who is your favourite child, Mom?” Jax cheekily asked, teasing our mother and I did not even look up from my plate.

The only other person after Lex, whom I did not want to even look at, leave alone about talking was my mother.

She betrayed me. Period.

“Huh?” Mom asked surprised, her spoon hanging midair. “Favourite child? Hmm,” she pretended to think before answering, “None of you,” she replied and all my siblings threw a hissy fit especially when she said that she had just adopted us from the fish market. “ …. you were stinky children and no one wanted you. That still seems the case,” she joked.

I could feel her glancing my way, in the hope to see me react but I completely ignored her and toyed with the little amount of food I had served in my plate.

I had lost all appetite to eat and could vaguely hear what everyone jawed away at the chatty table.

“What do a burnt pizza, frozen beer and pregnant woman have in common?”
