Hazel's POV

“I don’t know.”

I was still sitting on the bed, refusing to get up.

“Won’t you go and check?”

“I don’t know if the Alpha would want me to open the door to just about anyone.”

“Why wouldn’t he want you to?”

“I know I haven’t really known you since then, but don’t you remember what happened the last time I opened the door to allow someone who turned out to be a suspected spy in? I was punished for it. I’m hungry, and I do not want to have to go two days without food, or this time, it could be a worse punishment.”

The knock came again. It was gentle and patient.

“I understand your fears, but I don’t think now will be as before. You said the Alpha is different now. Surely he won’t punish you this time.”

“And how would you know that?”
