Hazel's POV

"What was that?" Alpha Lokris inquired.

I felt his scrutinizing gaze on me, but I no longer cared. He could whip me for all I cared. My face scrunched in pain over the thought of losing Lia. She wasn’t going to die, but she was surely going to be lost forever, whatever that meant.

"Lia?"

The link was lost.

"Lia?"

No response. My heart pounded heavily against my chest. Did it happen already? Was she lost forever?

"I said, what was that?" Lokris asked again.

"Reply him, Hazel."

Oh goodness, she was okay. My wolf was alright. Despite the pain and the gravity of the situation, a small smile played on my lips.

"Stop smiling and reply to him."

I had never been more happy to hear my own voice—well, our own voice. She sounded a bit stronger and less sad. It made me happy. I tried to stand, but I couldn’t; blood had taken over my back. I winced, both in pain and in the knowledge that my back probab
