Alpha Lokris’s POV

My face was contorted in fury, and I felt myself vibrate in anger. Who killed this wench and dropped her here? Had she been responsible for the death of one of my men? Had she helped that human escape? If she had, then who had killed her? How had all these things happened without my knowledge? Two dead bodies and an escaped kidnapped victim—how?

Even my men, whom I had sent to verify the genuineness of the human’s story, did not all return. Many had been killed; only a few had come back with injuries. The evidence they had, they said, had been collected by one of the Alpha’s men.
