Chapter 3

The cops didn’t give a damn that Adams was wealthy. He was treated like any other person.

Doctor Ramya made sure to lock Adams in her office for fear that his presence in Topaz’s room may shake her up. He didn’t seem to have a problem with that, he just wanted to get everything over and done with.

After what seemed like a while of pacing back and forth in Dr Ramya’s office, the door flew open and she walked in, accompanied by two men in civil uniform.

“Am I free to go?” the tall eloquent inquired. The look doctor Ramya gave him showed that she’d made the wrong judgement.

“Mr Anderson, I’ll like to apologise for the inconvenience we’ve caused, but you need to understand that we’re just doing our job,” one of the officers said.

Adams ignored the officer’s excuses and turned his attention to the Doctor “You know, I have a good mind not to file a lawsuit against you, Doctor Ramya”

“Mr Anderson, I am sincerely sorry for the embarrassment. I will understand if you want to take any legal measures,” replied the Doctor, although, deep down, she hoped that it wouldn’t go that far. She’d followed her gut, which turned out to be wrong, but she had no regrets. She’ll do it all over again.

Adams studied the ginger’s head for a while, noticing the way small bits of perspiration formed on her forehead from nervousness.

“Mmmm. Can I see her?” he said instead, taking the back, who took a while to respond.

“Uh....yes... sure,” the doctor stuttered. Adams replied with a quick nod before exiting the room.

He could hear the Doctor apologise to the cops for wasting their time as he closed the door behind him.

Taking a deep breath, Adams prepared himself to face the woman he’d rushed to the hospital.

He placed a light knock on the door and then proceeds to turn the doorknob. He peaked in with his head first, before entering and closing the door.

Under the light, the bruises on the woman’s face were clearer. A black eye, swollen lips and à bandage wrapped around her head. Adams didn’t know this woman personally, but his heart bled for her. He couldn’t imagine someone hurting a woman to this extent, worse when she’s expecting. If it was Jade, his little sister, laying in this bed, looking like this, he wouldn’t hesitate to take action into his hands. The blonde’s eyes were closed and so the dashing man assumed she was asleep and decided against waking her up. He needed to talk with her, but what he had to say could wait until tomorrow since it was inappropriate.

The following morning, Adams made it to the hospital as early as eight a.m. He’d barely slept a wink with thoughts clouding his mind, thoughts which he needed to let go.

Standing in front of her room, Adams knocked lightly before letting himself in.

“Hey,” a groggy voice called out.

“Uh, hi. Good morning. How are you?” asked Adams as he approached the woman, who let out a light chuckle and replied;

“Beat up,” she said with a smile, making the dark-haired man frown at her humour.

“Right. Not the right time for that,”she corrected whilst she shifted in bed but flinched when she felt pain.

“Be careful,” Adams warned before adjusting her pillow so she could sit upright. Tension the size of a mountain emerged between Topaz and Adams, with Adams occasionally stealing glances in Topaz’s direction, while Topaz, on the other hand, gawked at him without flinching. It made

Adams nervous so he began tapping his feet on the ground.

“You’re staring hard” he said, momentarily staring at her making Topaz let out a light chuckle.

After a while of silence, Noah spoke up

“Who did this to you?” Adams’s voice was filled with concern for the woman.

Topaz sighed and looked the other way. Derek was responsible for putting her in this situation and it wasn’t the first time. So how does she explain to a stranger, that her boyfriend of five years did this to her, without him judging her? She couldn’t, and so she remained silent.

“Okay. Anyone I can call?” Adams asked and the blonde shook her head.

He was beating around the bush. Something he hated when others did. But at the same time, what he was about to ask of her was highly inappropriate, and there was no better way to lay it. So instead, he’d settled on small talk.

So far, he’s learned that the blonde’s name is Topaz Salvador, she was twenty-two years old. He’d tried prying some information out of her, but each time, he was rewarded with silence. Then, he proceeded to introduce himself.

“I’m Adams. Adams Anderson,” the dark-haired man said and Topaz replied with a dry smile.

“My throat is a little dry. Can I get some water?” After Adams helped her with water, he decided now was the time to tell her.

“So Uh, Topaz. I had a talk with Doctor Ramya yesterday about your situation and I don’t know if she’s told you,” Adams started and the blonde shook her head, making Adams frown. How come she doesn’t know? Has no one read her diagnosis to her?

“No, not yet. I assume soon,” she said plainly, and Adams debated whether to push on or not.

“You look like you have something to say,” the blonde stated, making Adams stare at her nervously.

“I do, but it’s Uh, inappropriate,” he brushed his hand through his hair.

“Hit me,” the blonde joked, earning another frown from Adams. He couldn’t help but wonder why the blonde used dark humour, perhaps to hide her pain. He dismissed that thought.

“There’s no easy way to say it, so I’ll be direct,” the dark-haired haired started, wiping his sweaty palms on his fine-tailored pants.

“Turns out you’re pregnant, so I want to hire you to be my baby mama,” his statement was blunt, making the blonde’s eyes wide with shock. She was about to fire back when the door flew open and Doctor Ramya walked in. At once, Adams turned to her and added

“For one hundred million francs.”
