Chapter 28. Behind It
I devoted my thoughts intently on her ghostly complexions. Even her once-rosy lips had become a lighter shade. Her scent made me feel apprehensive, as if the wind and rain had swept away the scent of cherry blossoms that had always brought me solace. Instead of adopting a dominant stance, she developed a look on her face that hinted she was being bullied.
After the doctor shared his findings with me, he then departed. He claimed that there was nothing he could do to halt the gradual spread of the poison, and even if he was successful in doing so, he did not know what the consequences of his operations would be.
He was completely worthless. They were entirely useless. I was useless.
"Mommy... huk. Mommy. Wake up, please."
Morgan was whimpering as he embraced his mother's stomach as they both laid down. My son squeezed himself to his mother firmer as if he was frightened.
