Chapter 56. I Had You
We didn’t say a word as we drove to his house, but the car was amazing. It was so expensive that I would be scared to drive it.
When we get to his apartment, which has an underground parking garage, I notice my baggy jeans and hoodie as soon as we pull into his slot. I was carrying a backpack like a child, but he was dressed like an adult and holding a briefcase. This was the first time I realized we were not the same age.
As he gets out of the car, it’s hard for me to keep up with him. I get in the elevator with him, and when I look up, I see a stern face looking straight ahead.
We go into his room and I look around. It’s big and has fancy furniture and decorations that don’t make sense, like a rocket. There was no picture of a person or anything else that made this place feel like home.
I say quietly, "Your place is nice," to which he nods, clears his throat, and takes off his suit jacket. He was nervous and on the verge of anger. I tell him strai
