Chapter 6. The News
“So?” Mom asked as soon as I got into the car. “How’s Elias?”
“He’s fine,” I replied, letting out a sigh and patting my knees.
I hadn’t confessed to her what I’d done earlier today in that apartment. I had gone out in the morning to meet a friend, but upon returning, I discovered a lease for a room in my purse.
My parents didn’t seem to acknowledge my transition into adulthood. However, the boundary between childhood and adulthood was becoming increasingly blurred due to my continued stay at home. Even when I informed them of my whereabouts and return time, they persisted with their inquiries. My parents discouraged me from leaving home, citing the “expense” of it, so I stayed with them throughout college.
Nevertheless, I had managed to save a significant amount, and my original plan was to wait until after graduation to secure an apartment or even consider purchasing a car. I was glad I hadn’t because I now had enough savings to make this move.
