Chapter 10. Shift
It was my very first night shift at work, and I was looking forward to getting some sleep when it was over. Finally, I would be able to go to sleep.
Despite the novelty of my current sleeping arrangements, I thoroughly enjoyed my extra hours in bed. It worked out well. It had been three days since I moved into my new apartment, but I still didn’t feel at home here. I had to remind myself constantly that the kitchen and living room were now my own space, and I no longer needed to solicit permission to use them.
I hadn’t made much of a mess because I was worried they’d hate me if I did. As a result, I never left anything out in the bathroom while I got ready in the morning, and I routinely swept the entire flat.
I got the impression that they liked me, but I couldn’t be sure. We hadn’t spent much time together since that first night, and I hadn’t even seen Nash very often. He was either out of the house doing something or in his room with the door closed.
