Chapter 20. Desire

“Zach, I had not much of a choice. We were going to start a war if we were going to enter the Dark Crest Pack without permission or notice. You know this,” I replied, most of the fear disappearing at that moment.

“Don’t f*cking tell me what I know!” The Alpha snapped, slapping the vase that he stood near straight to the floor, causing it to crash.

Shards of porcelain scattered across the room, echoing the tension that danced around us. I took a step back, my heart thumping in my chest, startled by the sudden outburst. 

Zach’s eyes blazed with frustration and his clenched jaw only emphasized the anger he was struggling to contain. “There’s a reason Vanessa and Mark listened when I made my decision. But Rue…” He pulled on his hair, his eyes crazy as he chuckled without humor. “You’re just so infuriating!”
