Chapter 257. Running out of Time

I picked up the spoon, its cold metal clinking faintly against the tray. As I stared at the mushy slop before me, my mind kept racing. Was the thumb drive going to work? Was it the key to everything, or would it turn out to be a dead end?

The thought of it being a dead end and staring at the soup made me nauseous. And let’s not forget how terrible the cell smelled. But I knew that I needed to eat.

So I pushed it all aside. With a sigh, I dug the spoon into the food, forcing myself to swallow despite the taste. It tasted very bland, almost as if it had been cooked for a dog. I think even some dogs had better food than this.

I tried to ignore the gurgling in my stomach and the feeling of wanting to vomit that rose each time I chewed. I had been through worse, I could handle this. That was what I kept telling myself.

The cell felt like it was choking me, but I refused to let it break me. I needed to stay sharp, I needed to stay on top of my game
