Kael led us to a velvet-lined display case, his hands still trembling slightly as he unlocked it with a key from his pocket.
“This piece,” he said reverently, lifting a necklace from its resting place, “was commissioned by Master Heston’s father sixty years ago. The center stone is a sapphire from the Northern Mines. I think it will suit you well, my lady. It will bring out your eye color."
He held it out for me.
I couldn’t help but reach out.
My fingers hovered over it, not quite touching.
“It’s so beautiful,” I breathed.
