The doctor reached us. Carla got up from the seat next to me. My parents appeared down the hallway and joined my conversation with the doctor.

"What happened, doctor? Is Lena okay?" My heart raced.

"Lena is fine, and the babies are alive. But the pregnancy is becoming risky. It always was. Lena won't withstand a fall or a shock. There's a spot on the ultrasounds we performed on Lena. She needs to be on bed rest. No going up or down stairs. She shouldn't lift anything heavy. We'll keep Lena under observation. The operation was straightforward, but she woke up in pain. Lena shouldn't be exposed to stress, as it could worsen her condition."

I felt immense relief hearing the doctor's words. My soul returned to my body. I could breathe regularly again. I swore I would die if anything happened to Lena. Carla patted my back with a smile. I smiled back.
