Chapter 38

Winter’s POV

The journey to the meeting hall where Lordan had summoned me that early in the morning was like a walk in the pits of hell. I was right; he wouldn’t sit back and do nothing upon hearing the news of his life being threatened. And it was safe to say that this would be my last day on Earth, as well as Eliza’s, and maybe Lucas’s, and that of every other person who had been involved.

I had been correct to think there was someone else who had met with Lordan last night.

Could it have been Dorra? I wondered as soon as I laid eyes on her standing in the hall, looking radiant.

That would explain why she was also here; she had been summoned by Lordan too and was a witness. But what bothered me more was not seeing Lucas there, too. Perhaps Lordan had him smothered in his sleep? My heart thumped hard against my ribs, and my head pounded with an intense ache.

I stood at a distance from Dorra when I walked in, not ready to engage in conversation.
