Isabella’s father was his father’s oldest friend and, like his father, controlled a massive wine company in Napa Valley. As Isabella was an only child, her father had requested that he marry her and have the wine business of both families merged. So, even if his father’s demand to wed her seemed harsh and selfish, it was best for the family business.
“I get it,” Isla replied. “Sometimes, we make hasty decisions and later retrace our footsteps.”
She seemed pretty understanding.
“I hope you’re not annoyed by my question,” she said, sounding a little scared.

He was glad that she was interested in getting to know him—so much for the bad attitude Elena had been complaining about.
