Chapter 25
“Emma’s father was a liar and a thief. And his luck ran out when he thought to strike,” Leo said to Isla.
“That’s terrible. I wish I understood,” she voiced.
Her chestnut eyes were so worried, so caring. But he would go no further in talking about the past. He was still so hurt by it.
After talking more about the things in the room, they both left, and he returned to his room. Elena stood by his window side, her eyes glazed.
“Ella,” he said, reaching for a hug, but she shrugged it off.
Leo wondered what her attitude was about this time. They’d barely spoken in the past four days, and she’d been carrying a long face around. When he’d tried to find out what the matter was, she’d ignored him, and now she was in his room, displaying her sour attitude again.
“What’s the matter, Ella?”
“You.”
She charged at him, her worst look, tears welling in her eyes.
“You know how I hate to see you cry, Ella. Did I say or do anything wrong?”
