"I heard you talking to a man last night," Paige said to Lana, who was steeping two tea bags into a glass of warm water.
Lana said nothing, pretending not to have heard her. As the water in the cup turned very dark, she removed the teabags and disposed of them.
"Are you just going to ignore me, Lana? I said I heard you talking with a man last night? Who was he?"
She stayed at Paige with disgust.
"Well, you heard wrong, Paige. Maybe you were imagining a man in your dream. Maybe your loneliness is now making you mad."
Paige wiped the fine China in her hand and laughed.
"I’m not lonely, Lana. Someday, love will find me."
"Well, keep deceiving yourself. How will love find you when you’re trapped in this mansion washing dishes and cleaning after your employers? You barely even go out. You're not ambitious. The best thing you're good at is serving others."
