Chapter 62

“Leonardo Mancini is here to see you,” Isabella's maid informed her.

“Let him in,” she said excitedly, her eyes flicking over her blood-red fingernails.

She was sitting on her sofa. Relaxing. She wondered what Leo was doing here at this time. He'd told her he had a lot of work at the office today. So, they had planned to go out for dinner tomorrow night.

She rested her head on the back of the cushion. Having Leo around made her heart pulse in excitement. He hardly came around to see her. So, it was nice that he'd decided to do so today.

She heard his footsteps and lifted her eyes to see him. His eyes were tired; his shoulders slumped forward. He looked like a shadow of himself. Isabella was shocked.

"Are you alright, Leo?" she said.

"No," he mumbled.

He sloped onto the sofa opposite where he sat and buried his face in his palms. She sprang to her feet and sat beside him.

"What happened, Leonardo?
