Chapter 4
Jared leaped through the leaves, his body mixing with the darkness as he held onto the rails of the windows of her room.
Sending a prayer to the heavens that her room was close to the trees, he released one of his hands and knocked on the window.
With a startle, she dropped her phone and glanced toward the window, her heartbeat kicking with speed.
The knock came again, and she stepped down from the bed, moving toward her wardrobe.
Her father had gotten her a bottle of pepper spray when she moved back to Riverrun County in case she met with the animal causing havoc to the land.
He had thrust it into her hands and made her promise to always have the spray with her as he wanted her to be able to fight for herself if she ever got in contact with the being.
She had never had a use for the spray before, but now, it seemed like it was about to fulfill its purpose.
