“That’s fine,” Lily replied. “We don’t expect you to be strong enough to handle the job, anyway.”

Dana and Lily both pretended to completely ignore the poltergeist tantrum that followed. Cupboard doors rattled so hard that they sheared from their frame, and crockery was hurled around the beach house, most of it shattering on the floor. The telekinetic storm lasted nearly five minutes before settling down.

Fine. The door to the porch opened to reveal that Jenny’s chair had moved so that the doll was facing inward now.

“Yeah, I guess you can come.” Lily stood and casually walked across the room, ignoring the ceramic shards that crushed underneath her boots. She picked up the doll and brought it inside. “Looks like Lala is gonna lose her deposit again.”

“I don’t think money is even a real thing to her.” Dana reached into her bag and pulled out another piece of jerky.
