Patrick Banks POV

I knew I couldn’t miss my brother’s funeral. No matter what happened between us when he was alive, I still needed to pay my last respects.

Valerie didn’t want to go, but I insisted.

It would look bad if we weren’t present. We didn’t get any invitation. My mother didn’t even tell me when it was happening, I got to find out about it from my cousin.

I wasn’t surprised. After everything, I expected her to resent me, but I didn’t expect her to erase me from the family like I never existed. She treated me like I was a complete stranger.

When we pulled up to the church, Valerie turned and looked at me. “Are you sure you want to go inside? We can go back home if you want.”

I let out a soft chuckle. “It’s just for a few hours. We can pull through.” I said, trying to sound convincing. “We have each other, right? We will survive.”

“Okay.” Valerie let out a reluctant sigh. “I just hope your mother doesn’t do anything dramatic,” Valerie
