Chapter 8. Beyond Business

Isabella picked on her food while she discussed with her father about Maxwell’s recent engagement with Alex and how it has been affecting them.

“Do you two need my help?” Ryder asked, looking straight at her. His rested his hand on the table. She sighed and shook her head.

“No Dad. There is no need for that. Besides, what kind of help can you possibly give us,” Isabella asked and he chuckled.

“You think I do not know anything about business,” he stated rather than questioned.

“I did not say that but I wouldn’t have been wrong either. You are not a business man so?”

“Well you were the one who told me the situation on ground was beyond business. So this is where I come in,” his face was hard and unsmiling as always. Isabella had always wished she knew her dad before he changed.

“No father, no. You know…” she paused, took a deep breath and decided to change the direction of the conversation. “I have always wanted to know what kind of man you were bef
