Chapter 28. Single and Broken
Isabella sat on the bed and wondered what Alex and his mother would be discussing. She had an idea what it could be, but was curious to hear especially Alex’s response. She hoped he would be nice to his mother after all.
After some minutes, she decided to go down and see how it was going. But the living room was empty when she got there. She heard Peggy in the kitchen and walked to the door.
“Peggy, do you happen to know when my husband and his mother left the house?” she asked her, leaning on the door. Peggy turned to look at her.
“No ma’am. But I do know Sir Alex left before his mother did. And from the way she looked, I assumed the conversation did not go well,” Peggy told her, rinsing a plate.
Isabella nodded thoughtfully.
“Say, is everything okay with her?” Peggy asked, looking like she had to think about the question and reluctantly decided there was no harm asking. Isabella closed her eyes halfway, trying to think who Peggy was asking about and g
