Chapter 78

As Max struggled against Lex's grip, his emotions threatened to overwhelm him. He yearned to confront the commissioner, to demand answers for Kathleen's death, but Lex's firm hold kept him rooted in place.

"Calm down, Max," Lex urged, his voice gentle yet firm. "He won't budge."

But Max couldn't suppress the flood of emotions that surged within him. Tears welled up in his eyes, tracing a path down his cheeks as the weight of his grief threatened to crush him from within.

Lex's heart clenched at the sight of Max's tears, a pang of empathy piercing through his resolve. He turned to the other detective, his voice steady as he issued instructions. "Help me get him back to the department," he said quietly, his tone filled with concern.
