“Oh yeah… they’re not here right now,” Alpha Marcel says, scratching his head like he’s trying to dig out the answer. “They went outta the country to visit a relative of my wife.”
I nod, but honestly, it sounds like total bullshit. Like, really? In the middle of all this chaos? The pack’s cursed, people are dropping dead, and his wife and kid are off on a damn vacation?
He must’ve noticed the way my face scrunched up, ‘cause he jumps in real quick like he read my damn mind. “I know what you’re probably thinking. But my son wasn’t feeling too well, so my wife thought a little break would help.”
Uh-huh. A break during a werewolf plague. Sure. I nod again, mostly just to be polite. “I get it. I should head to bed. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
