Detective James' POV

I sat in the courtroom, my eyes kept on widening in disbelief as Kayla and Hailey spin their web of deceit.

Their lives are contradicting everything I have heard before. I can't help but wonder why they're trying to hide.

Kayla's voice is steady, but her eyes dart around the room, avoiding mine.

"I never knew anything about the syndicate, Detective. I was just a pawn in Sarah's game." My eyes became wide.

Hailey's voice trembles, but her words are laced with malice.

"Detective James was obsessed with solving the case. He coerced me into making false statements." She reveals.

"What?" I muttered silently as I grip my fist.
