Chapter 21. Come and Get It
Ezra POV
The men walk out after their threat, and I don’t look at Wren. I physically can’t bring myself to because I know exactly what I’ll find.
I turn on my heels, heading up the stairs.
“No, you don’t!” She screams, her footsteps following after me until it stops. “Let me go, Raymond, I swear to god…get back here, Ezra!”
My door slams shut, drowning out the mumbling from downstairs. I sink down on my bed, hand in my hair.
Before I can process, the door flies open and Wren storms in.
“You killed him?” She snaps. “I begged you to find his killer, yet you looked me in the eye and you lied to me.”
“I didn’t kill him.”
She laughs. It’s short, bitter. “There you go, lying again.”
“I beat him up, yes, but he was still breathing when I left.”
And that’s the truth. If I wanted to kill him, I would’ve. I never miss.
“So you beat him?”
I nod. “Yes.”
“You stripped him?”
“Yes.”
