Zave doesn't think much about it as he pulls me into his chest. Clinging to him like my life depends on it, he mustered the strength to speak.
"I'm so sorry, but we need to keep moving," he says, gently urging me away from Izaac while keeping a firm grip on a gun in his other hand.
"Hold on, I can't leave him there. He deserves better, and I can't just abandon him. I need to stay with him," I insist.
"That's right. You should," he agrees.
"Look at him, Zave. He's scared of the dark, just like Veronica. I need to be here when he wakes up," I say, desperately.
"He's not waking up, Chantel," he states bluntly.
"I know, but what if he does? What if there's a miracle? Once, it rained unexpectedly, and there was a star shower. Surprises happen. It might happen again."
