Chapter 9. Revelations by the Lake

Chantel takes a place by the lake. Her hand goes into the water, and then she brings the wet cloth up to her forehead. She doesn't move, groan, or do anything else that would suggest she's in pain.
That makes me think of how she took over with poison-damaged skin on her leg.
"Is there something you need?" Her beautiful eyes are looking right into mine, sparking curiosity.
"Everyone working for us is fine. I believed you would be interested in that."
"That's good," she sighs, looking happy. I sit down next to her, just behind her.
"Something else you need?" she inquired.
"No," I replied.
"Then what are you still doing here?" she tease, injecting a playful tone.
"I can't sit here?"
"Not with me."
She thinks I'm too close to her, which makes her angry. There's something about me that makes her fee
