Chapter 22

Claire’s POV

I kept talking about what I felt until Luke pulled me into a hug. “Why?” I asked him.

“I know you need a hug. Sometimes a hug makes you feel a lot better,” he smiled. I let him hug me until the door suddenly opened, and we quickly let go. I looked at who it was; it was Arlo, laughing and saying sorry for disturbing us.

“It’s fine. What is it?” Luke asked.

“You can rest first, and maybe at 4 pm we can start preparing for the barbecue,” he chuckled, and he closed the door.

It was an awkward silence between Luke and me after Arlo left.

“I’ll sleep for a while. My head actually hurts,” I smiled at him.

“Yeah, sure. Call me if you need anything,” he smiled.

I wanted to sleep, but I couldn’t. That hug made my head hurt more, but somehow it made my chest feel lighter. I decided to ignore the fact that Luke hugged me even if it was just the two of us. He didn’t have to, but because he wanted to make me feel better, he did.<
