Chapter 173
Kieran’s POV
I sat in my office, lost in thoughts as my eyes scanned the map cover on my desk every inch marked with red lines, dots, and hastily written notes. I’ve barely slept in three days. Every time I think we’ve secured the borders, another report comes in. Another death.
A knock echoes on the door before Jay steps in, his expression sad. He doesn’t need to say anything; the folder in his hand tells me enough.
“More attacks?” I ask, though the answer is obvious.
He nods and places the folder on the desk. “Three, this time. North, west, and east borders simultaneous hits.”
I grit my teeth. “Simultaneous?”
“Yes,” he says quietly. “They knew our rotation schedules. They hit right when patrols switched shifts. Minimal guards on all fronts.”
I stare at the map again, tracing the red ink lines with my finger. Each mark represents an attack, a pattern slowly forming. Whoever’s behind this isn’t guessing. They’re planning.
