I was still holding the baby in my arms when the guards raised the alarm. The shock left me speechless as all these men came with the news of Clarisa’s attack, crowding in front of me and pleading for the king’s presence. It was too late; Rachel disappeared as if she had never been here, leaving her son in my lap, hoping that he would survive the coming danger. The kingdom would soon be caught in a terrible storm; that was clear, and we had to prepare for that moment. I held the little one and pressed him to my chest as I saw him begin to notice his mother’s absence.
