Chapter 183. The Day Death Knocked Quietly
LION
The days after the fateful announcement were strange for me. As a guardian, I always tried to protect the people I was supposed to protect because that was my job, and I did it to the letter. Violence could always be used to do justice and protect those who did not know how to defend themselves. I believed that for a while, until that day when the worst riot broke out in the city, and I faced the truth that I stubbornly refused to accept.
I left the castle and roamed the city like a man without armor. I needed to see the people who had once meant something to me and find out if they were still alive.
Most of my acquaintances lived in one of the streets adjacent to the market. Since the news had spread, I had not been encouraged to go out into the streets because I had the responsibility to protect the king. Attacks had decreased in the face of violence, which multiplied as death advanced. There were many more problems than just the consumption of water.
