Chapter 244. My Beloved

I held Nicolas in my arms. He had already started eating purées of some foods because his appetite was enormous. Carmen carried Cethium, who had become more difficult to handle in recent days. He would sometimes cry for no reason, as if he were in some kind of discomfort. But the most difficult thing of all was the nights, because he wouldn’t sleep a wink and suffered from horrible insomnia.
Jacob and I took turns each night to try to calm him down, because our little one was becoming more and more demanding. During the day, Carmen helped me to keep him calm. She discovered that he liked to look out the window.
“We can go to the balcony for coffee,” she said, when there was only one day left until the celebration organized by the nobles.
That seemed like the most fantastic idea to me. Carmen really occupied a very important place in my life. She was my closest friend. She was unconditionally by my side and helped me with the children.
