The bartender served a round for all four of us. The guy was the most cheerful about my gift.
“Are you from around here?” he asked curiously, breaking down his hostility a bit.
“Of course,” I smiled, feigning innocence.
Horace let out a laugh.
“You’re talking to Karl, lord of the lands behind the hills and cousin of Count Fabricio,” he said, annoyed at his lack of knowledge of my identity.
I clenched my teeth; I would have liked them to continue not knowing who I was. I raised my eyebrows, there was no point in lamenting. If, anyway, they already knew now. She looked at me with more distrust.
