Gabriel’s POV
“What did you say?” I asked.
“I said you’re blocking the path of an old man.”
“No, I mean before that.”
“You’re blocking the path of an old man.”
I was seething now. “Damn it, old man! You know what I mean!”
Aarav shuffled his feet as he usually did. “I’m afraid I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
I gave up. Getting him to focus was a challenge in itself. “I meant what you said about my wife.”
“What wife?” he asked. “I don’t recall a marriage between you and Cassandra.”
This was the peak of it. I lowered my head in frustration and shouted in exasperation. A passing boy stared at me; my outburst must have startled him. Perhaps he was thinking, ‘Why is the alpha yelling, and why isn’t Aarav doing anything?’ I wished I could respond to him: ‘The alpha is yelling because Aarav has infuriated him, and Aarav isn’t doing anything because he’s utterly useless.’
